The Atomic Times
It's the MySpace of fanzines Issue 3 November 2006
<<Page 2
The old Atomic Times motto, the truth shall make ye green, served Atomic society well for many edition of the Times, but as Atomic moves forward into a brave new future a brave new motto is required. Atomicans have suggested these as the figurehead as The Atomic Times forges forward for a fantastic future:
- The Atomic Times: Now with 75% more spam.
- The Atomic Times: Only slightly less evil then News Corp.
- The Atomic Times: It's not porn.
- The Atomic Times: Check out our centrefold.
- The Atomic Times: It's the MySpace of fanzines.
- The Atomic Times: In COLOUR.
- The Atomic Times: Not as good at stealing stuff as me.
- The Atomic Times: Now with words!
- The Atomic Times: It's what's for the evening news.
- The Atomic Times: Chargin' mah truth.
- The Atomic Times: The most periodic periodical.
- The Atomic Times: We report every six months, you decide.
- The Atomic Times: It's had yo mamma.

Atomican Profile: MrFriendly.
Orinjuse: MrFriendly is an Atomican who's only recently been thrust into the bright lights of Atomic society, but has a user number of 12171. Glad to have you with us, MrFriendly.
MrFriendly: Why thankyou good sir :)
Orinjuse: You've become a regular member of the forum life relatively quickly. Where have you been lurking since you signed up?
MrFriendly: Well, I actually signed up around issue 6 of the magazine, many moons ago. I posted a little bit, but other things happened in my life that took me away from my computer for the most part. Then when I moved up to Brissy this year I started to feel myself needing a bit of an outlet, and to get back with my geek side. So I came back here hehe. I mainly just hang out in the green room, but I've made a few posts in the other tech sections from time to time.
Orinjuse: We hear you're soon to be moving again. Tell us a little about that.
MrFriendly: Well, around July my sister asked me if I would consider living with her for a while next year while she tries to sort out a few issues in her life. So I thought I'd be there for her just the same way she's always been there for me when I was growing up. Plus some of my closest friends live in Melbourne, so I thought while I'm young I'd give it a go. I've always loved Melbourne and wanted to live there, so it wasn't a very hard decision to make.
Orinjuse: Do you plan to use the move as an opportunity for a career change?
MrFriendly: I most certainly do my good man, a whole life change really. I've decided to try bust out of the IT industry and try my hand at something else. I'm keen to study writing in its various forms, and I've also thought about committing myself to a lot of work in community service. I'm using this move as a chance to start a whole new and beautiful chapter in my life :)
Orinjuse: On the subject of writing, you did a series of US travel sagas a while ago. Tell us about the trip that spawned those pieces.
MrFriendly: LOL, hehehe well what to say. Basically a very close friend of mine who was living in the States at the time rang me up one day and basically just said "Dude, come over here and come on a road trip, it will be an adventure the likes you've never dreamed." And how could I argue with that? So I basically went over there to see one of my closest friends. I met up with him in New York with very little money, and had to survive for 30days AND get to LA to catch my flight home. Basically I got to NY and dropped myself in the crap and spent the rest of the time wildly trying to get out of trouble, while for most of it getting into more trouble and leave a trail of petty crime and destruction behind. But it was an adventure that really opened my eyes. America is one hell of an amazing country. And the people there were just awesome. But it is a country that has gone rotten at the core in my view. A lot of things there I found very disturbing. But I tell you what, it sure as hell made me appreciate Australia for what it is.
Orinjuse: And what do you think of our little Atomic society?
MrFriendly: Well more and more, I feel myself becoming part of the furniture in that place. It's becoming a part of me too. It really is a society onto itself in a lot of ways. It has people from all walks of life there, and has its own little social dramas that make up any community. I love it, for the most part it's fascinating reading all the varied opinions and getting a glimpse of the world through other peoples eyes.
Orinjuse: And on that note I'm afraid we'll have to leave it there. Thanks for your time, MrFriendly.
We'll end the night to the dulcet tones of the Atomic Times house band, playing 'I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.' Goodnight.
